Do you want to know ‘how to watch HDTV on Computer’? Basically there’s two ways of doing it. First you can buy a piece of hardware called a HDTV tuner adaptor or secondly you can either watch HDTV online via an internet broadcast.
The first option of using a HDTV tuner adaptor requires that you purchase a piece of inexpensive hardware (for $70 or less). If you have a desktop PC there are two types, which are either installed internally using one of your PCI slots or externally using a USB port.
They come in many variations with different capabilities and allow your PC to decode the Satellite TV or Cable HDTV signal. Some cards also provide other features such as radio and video capture. It you want to watch HDTV make sure that the adaptor you opt for is High Definition Television capable.
The adaptor will normally come with some viewing software which needs to be installed. Some adaptors have an inbuilt aerial or you can connect the adaptor to an external aerial for a better signal, you could plug this into your satellite receiver or cables television connection at home.
Your other option is to watch HDTV online over the internet. There are many websites that broadcast TV channels over the internet. Some of them claim to have 3000+ channels from around the world which you can view.
Not all of them are free, some require a one off fee or monthly subscription. But there are many sites which allow you to watch HDTV channels online for free. The only thing you will need to do this is a reasonable spec PC and an internet connection (2meg or more is advised). You will need suitable software to view the TV channel broadcasts, but if your computer doesn’t already have it they can be downloaded for free.
The big advantage with watching TV online is that it is free and also you’re not viewing on your TV. If you use a laptop, you can watch TV on your PC anywhere an internet signal is available.
