The world is used to LCD televisions and monitors but that was a world and time long past. The future of televisions and other monitors lies in OLED technology. OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. Putting the technical details aside, OLEDs are great for lighting up a large area such as a huge 24″ computer monitor or the even larger OLED television.
So the next question that is logical to ask is why OLEDs are better than the traditional LCD televisions? The answer lies in the significant benefit of power use. OLED televisions do not require a traditional backlight to light up the display and so they use less power (which is good in a world where people are starting to care more about the environment) and they can last longer on the same charge (though this applies more to OLED computer monitors more than OLED televisions). And just by taking a look at an OLED television and an LCD television that OLED is a technology that allows the television to get slimmed down to become a much thinner version of the old bulky LCD television.
One very interesting thing about the new OLED technology is that it has the potential to create transparent screens. Lukas’ ideas of futuristic screens in the popular movie trilogy (now a series) Star Wars can finally be realized with this amazing new technology. The next step with OLED televisions may even be flexible televisions that could be folded or even curved for a more genuine movie experience. People of future generations will look back upon the OLED televisions as a revolutionary stage in the advancement of technology while also using less power (which subsequently come from fossil fuels, the burning of which is very detrimental for our environment). The “green” nature is also another reason the OLED television is so great. The OLED can be so easily accepted by our society because they are a cleaner alternative to the old LCD screens. It is the only logical choice that our society can make as the replacement for old LCD televisions.
