LED Monitors and Displays

You probably use an LCD monitor or display whenever you use your PC or laptop. They have dominated the market over the last few years, and were a vast improvement over the old CRT monitors. But now you have a choice to make when it comes to replacing you currently display, and it comes with the emergence of the LED monitor.

The factor that differentiates conventional LCD and LED displays is the way which they are lighted. Fluorescent lights have been used up to now with LCD displays. Fluorescent lights, as you probably already know have a limited life-span. Over a period of 3-5 years you may notice that your LCD display is getting dimmer. This is because fluorescent lights used in side-lit or back-lit monitors deteriates over time and LCD displays aren’t designed to enable replacement of failing lights.

This is where LED monitors come into play. They have many qualities which makes them an improvement over LCD screens. Firstly they simply have a longer life span when used as a light source in LED displays when compared to their LCD predecessors.

Next they allow LED displays to be a lot thinner and lighter in weight. This is because fluorescent lighting is much bulkier. LEDs, especially when used as side-lighting (as apposed to back-lit) allow manufacturers to produce more slim-line displays.

When it comes to picture quality LED lighting enhances the pictures displayed. When they produce light LEDs have a better full spectrum range than fluorescent lighting does. This improves the contrast and makes the colours more vivid.

The benefits of owning an LED display do not end here, they have additional qualities which are an added bonus to owning one. As LED lighting uses less power then does fluorescent lighting, LED monitors can consume up to 40% less power. This is a reason why they are used in laptops to improve battery life.

The benefits of owning an LED display are plentiful, if your not quite ready to replace that old LCD display yet just remember what you’ve read when you are and you won’t go far wrong if you replace that old display with a new LED monitor.
