The High Definition TV has been one of the most high impact technologies that have made an appearance in the last decade. It might only be a television, but with TV in billions of home round the world the TV revolution has been far reaching. High definition televisions operate using digital broadcasts, where older sets were analogue.
The impressive feature of high definition television is with the high resolution images we see on our screens. This can be explained by the new formats of HDTV. Firstly TV pictures are made up of horizontal lines of pixels. HD television uses two formats 720 or 1080, this number refers to the number of lines. To make the comparison old analogue TVs had 480 lines.
When contemplating the purchase of a high definition television, what are the points that should be considered? It might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but firstly you should consider the size of the room that the HDTV is for. First of all consider the best position in the room for the TV, away from lights which might cause glare. Then picture where you might be sit to view the television. What size set would suit these positions? Too big a television set can look out of place in a room and be uncomfortable to watch.
Once you have and idea of the optimal size of HD television that best suits the environment you should get some ideas about price. Whether it is a 42 inch HDTV or a 32 inch HDTV – is it a television that’s in your affordable price bracket?
Once you have decided what screen size to buy, be sure what you will be using the HD TV for. Will you be watching digital or analogue broadcasts? Are the channels broadcast in high definition or standard definition? Do you have other high definition devices that you will require to connect like DVDs, Blu-Ray, Xbox, playstation and PC?
Be sure the set that you are buying will meet you viewing demands. Do you require a built in tuner? Check that it has the right type and quantity of connectors, like scart, HDMI, VGA, USB connectors etc. And don’t forget to consider the audio options also. Does the TV set come with a suitable audio system, or will you require a surround sound system?
To get the most out of you home cinema experience then it is certainly worth taking a little time to make sure you make the right decisions. Be sure to know your HD TV requirements and then be sure to compare HDTVs before buying.
